Research

Competitive Analysis

User Interviews

HEURISTIC REVIEW OF COMPETITORS

  • After identifying the competitors of Velocified, their strengths and weaknesses were evaluated.

  • We, as a team, conducted a Google search and discovered that Velocified has three main competitors, namely Aims Solutions, Ralph Kison, and Marcourt Communications Inc. The competitors’ websites have a lengthy process to reach the product, requiring users to click through multiple pages.

  • In contrast, the layout of website Workday appears user-friendly, and the integration of Google Calendar plays a significant role in organizing and displaying future content for users.

USER INTERVIEWS

  • We made the decision to conduct user interviews, which are an important part of the LMS (Learning Management System) design process. These interviews would provide us with valuable insights into the users’ needs, behaviors, and motivations.

  • Despite the CEO of Velocified informing us that they couldn’t assists with the interviews, we proceeded with conducting them ourselves to better understand the pain points and requirements of the users.

Synthesis

Personas

Moodboard

PERSONAS

  • Although the company expressed a lack of interest in focusing on personas, we chose to create personas regardless. We believed that following the design process in a way we found meaningful was important for the next phase.

  • By empathizing with the users and considering their perspectives at each step of their journey, we aimed to understand their emotions and develop improved design solutions for their experiences.

MOODBOARD

  • We, as a team, gathered a collage of imagery (mood-board), from various sources to represent the visual aesthetic we would like to incorporate into the UI of Smarty'’s website. The Mood-board provided a great inspiration when we made decisions about color, typography, imagery as we built the style guide for the product.

Brainstorming

User Flow

Style Guide

BRAINSTORMING

  • During our brainstorming session, our team collectively generated numerous ideas to discover innovative design solutions for Velocified’s website. We conducted this session at the beginning of the project to incorporate the best ideas into the later stages of product development.

  • Each team member actively contributed their ideas, making the session both effective and productive. As a result we generated a variety of potential features that could be implemented on the website.

USER FLOW

  • As designers, we considered all the ways user could navigate through the website to identify the essential path, so we created the user-flow, a visual representation of a specific route with my team, that a user might take through the website to achieve a goal.

STYLE GUIDE

  • As a team, we developed a style guide for Velocified’s website, which included design principles, guidelines, and best practices for the user interface of their LMS. The purpose was to establish a consistent and recognizable look and feel. The style guide included visual specifications and guidelines on when to use specific interactions.

Design

Sketching

Low-Fidelity Wireframe

High-Fidelity Wireframe

SKETCHING

  • Sketching was a quick way to make our ideas tangible so that we could test and adjust them before we made digital versions of our designs. Sketching provided my team with an intimate insight on how layouts would work.

  • We created rough sketches of the main screens we were designing that were meant just to give us a starting point.

LOW-FIDELITY WIREFRAME

  • Wireframes were visual representations of a user interface that could help me and my team members determine how elements would be placed on the page. It was a great way to map the content of the Velocified’s website. Moreover, wireframe offered the flexibility and room for innovation that came with sketching an idea.

  • We, as a team showcased the initial wireframe to the CEO of the Velocified, illustrating the envisioned website design. Throughout regular meetings, she provided us with detailed feedback on how to enhance the wireframes.

REFINED WIREFRAME

  • By adopting an iterative design approach, my design team had the advantage of engaging in multiple cycles rather than striving for a flawless design in a single attempt. This approach enabled us to address any issues and make improvements that might have been overlooked otherwise.

FINAL WIREFRAME

  • Through iterative design, we, as a team, were able to rapidly and efficiently generate and evaluate ideas. Unsuccessful concepts were swiftly discarded, refined or retested while the successful ones were incorporated into the final wireframes.

HIGH-FIDELITY PROTOTYPE

  • As a team, we created an interactive prototype for the website of Velocified that provided greater insight into what the end-product would look like.

FINAL HIGH-FIDELITY PROTOTYPE

  • After receiving feedback from the CEO of Velocified, our design team throughly reviewed and analyzed our design ideas. This feedback from the company’s CEO, developer and consultant played a crucial role in identifying what aspects were effective, what needed improvement, and how to enhance the overall design.

Test

Usability Test

Final Design

USABILITY TEST

  • Despite the company’s reluctance to conduct usability test, as UI / UX designers, we made every effort to ensure the best possible outcome. While usability testing is a valuable tool for gathering user insights and refining designs, we understood the constraints and proceeded with alternative methods to gauge user experience.

  • Through meticulous research, extensive user interviews and rigorous design iterations, we strived to create an intuitive and user-friendly interface. Our dedication to delivering a high-quality user experience remained unwavering, even in the absence of formal usability testing.

FINAL DESIGN

  • The final UI/UX design of the online learning platform Velocified showcases an optimal blend of aesthetics and functionality. With a clean and intuitive interface, we, as a team, prioritize user-centricity, ensuring a seamless proficiency experience for our users.

  • The design incorporates a visually appealing color scheme, consistent typography, and thoughtful use of whitespace to enhance readability and minimize distractions.

  • Overall, the final design of the Velocified empowers users to explore, learn and grow in a visually appealing and user-friendly digital environment.

Key Takeaways

What I learned

Next Development

WHAT I LEARned!

  • Through this IDP project, I honed my skills in digital design by leading a team to revamp Velocified's online learning platform. By conducting user research, creating wireframes, and refining prototypes, I gained valuable experience in iterative design processes.

  • Collaborating with the CEO and my team, I learned to incorporate feedback effectively, prioritize user-centricity, and create visually appealing yet functional designs.

  • This project solidified my understanding of the importance of empathy, usability, and attention to detail in crafting engaging user experiences.

NeXT DEVELOPMENT

  • Looking ahead, my next steps and developments regarding this IDP project could involve conducting usability testing to gather feedback from actual users and further refine the design based on their insights.

  • I could also explore implementing interactive elements or animations to enhance user engagement and create a more dynamic user experience.

  • Additionally, I may consider conducting A/B testing to compare different design variations and optimize the platform further for usability and user satisfaction. Continuing to iterate on the design based on user feedback and data analytics will be crucial in ensuring that the Velocified online learning platform continues to evolve and meet the needs of its users effectively.
